In the year 2300, mankind has begun migrating into outer space. In the Andromeda Galaxy on the planet Solo, a team of archeologists unearth the remains of the Ideon, three vehicles with the ability to combine into the ultimate mecha. Along with the Ideon, the team discovers a massive ship which they work diligently to restore with limited success. One day, a humanoid alien civilization known as the Buff Clan discovers the activity on Solo and through a misunderstanding, launch an attack on the Earthlings. In the chaos, Cosmo Yuki along with his friends Kasha Imhof and Deck Afta enter the now active vehicles and combine to form Ideon and repel the Buff Clan. The surviving Earthlings then depart the planet aboard the restored Solo Ship on their new mission to keep the Ideon from the clutches of the Buff Clan.
